Safe Hands: If We Can't Get It, Then We'll Wear It

Hi ladies! Though Safe Hands has been on hiatus for a while, we know we can quickly get over that sad truth with this beautiful gold-green shade from O.P.I. off of their The Amazing Spider-Man collection that consists of six beautiful shades and a shatter.

I'll let you in a little secret here: I was a huge Spider-Man nerd. And I mean, huge. So when this collection came out, I was definitely more than a little excited. I haven't seen the movie myself; mainly because I still cannot accept anyone else but Tobey Maguire as Spidey. I'm just being obnoxious, I realise. Guilty as charged.

I went to my local O.P.I. nail bar today to get my regulars and decided it would be the perfect chance to try one of the shades that has been constantly compared to Chanel's Peridot. After a bit of reading on various nail blogs, it's safe for me to say that Just Spotted The Lizard is a flawless dupe of the former.

I love the idea of the scaly, slimy, yet slick feeling this shade gives off. It's a beautiful combination of gold, olive green, and a tint of blue when reflected and I am absolutely hooked. Painted on, it's a lot more gold than I imagined, but I still love it nonetheless. Feeling a bit bold today, I decided to play the gold-green against Arsenal's yellow monstrosity from the 2006/2007 season - our first away kit playing in the Emirates. A bit of bling looks good against our kit doesn't it? Now if only we can get the real thing.

Safe Hands: Hot, Hot, Hot

Bright red nails have always been popular, no matter the season or occasion. Red nails with a black evening dress? Gorgeous. Red nails with jeans and a simple tee? Low key with a hint of glam. Red nail varnish is simply timeless compared to its brothers and sisters that look tacky when they're used outside of their respective time-lines.

Today we're (finally!) back with a fun twist to the ever-classic candy apple red shade. Two coats of of NYC's Big Apple Red Creme followed by a swipe or two, depending of course on how much glitter you want, of Wet'n'Wild's Wild Shine in Kaleidoscope are all you need for sparkly red nails vaguely reminiscent of ruby slippers right out of the Wizard of Oz.

Safe Hands: Pastels

As pastels are a spring trend almost every year, it's only appropriate that every girl has at least a few different pastel varnishes in their collections. Although I tend to favour unpatterned, unprinted black and white clothing, I love to experiment with my nails. I've picked out 4 different pastels from my collection to share with you ladies.

From left to right, we have Blazed by Wet 'n Wild, and Easy Going, Cinderella, and Mint Apple, all by Sinful Colors. Both ranges can be found in any (American) chain store.

Easy Going is a nude shade without any sparkle, perfect for a more professional environment, while Cinderella and Mint Apple both sport subtle sparkles that spice the colours up. All 3 will be featured in later posts, so keep an eye out for them!

This week I am wearing Blazed, as shown below:

It's a lovely coral shade that will offset almost any other colour in the spectrum, so you won't have to worry much about your nails clashing with your outfit. The only downside is that the colour is a bit sheer and will take 2 to 3 coats to build up to a solid shade without any noticeable streaking.

Keeping on trend with my love for budget make-up, each bottle of these two brands should only set you back about £1.

Safe Hands: Blue Is The Colour, Football Is The Game

We're kickin' off another new series today - Safe Hands! I'm a huge fan of nail varnish and can't resist picking up a pot or two whenever I'm out, so what better than to feature a new colour each week?

To start us off, we have Blue By You, by Sinful Colors. This is a perfect colour for any of you ladies who happen to support a blue team, or maybe just want to rock a "cool" colour. There's just enough sparkle in this varnish that will catch anyone's attention but keep you from crossing the cheap, over the top gaudy line.

All you'll need are 2 quick coats and you'll have a nice, glossy finish as shown below:

(The best part? At only £1 each, you'll be able to stock up your nail varnish collection without feeling the least bit guilty!)
