Team Togs: Hertha BSC

Team Togs: Hertha BSC

Back again to the Bundesliga! This time we’ve headed over to the German capital and are bringing you an outfit inspired by Hertha Berlin. Although some of the first things that may come to mind about Berlin may be the Berlin airlift, the fall of the Berlin Wall and reunification of Germany, or JFK’s iconic “Ich bin ein Berliner” gaffe to name just a few iconic events, we’ve forgone the rich history of the city in favour of the equally action-packed history of the club.

Hertha were an inaugural member of the Bundesliga back in 1963 but the decade following was less than memorable, wrought by a bribery scandal that resulted in relegation and being several million euros in debt. The 70s brought a fair amount of success (bar a match fixing scandal) but more than half of the next 20 years were spent in the II. Bundesliga. Fast forward through some more debt and countless ups and downs and you've got a pretty good summary of the past 60 years for Berlin's favourite football team.

After reading the quick sparknotes version of Hertha’s recent history and still keeping in mind their origin of being named after a steamship by one of the founding members of BFC Hertha 92, we just couldn’t resist creating a slightly insane look with sailor-inspired elements. Think of it as something you could put together if someone put you in a shop after you've had a few beers.

There's no true centrepiece to this outfit, just individual elements that come together to create a whole. We've paired an anchor embellished pullover with nautical-striped pants, two strong sea-inspired elements but not quite overboard*. Add a bright blue bag and chained black trainers and we take the look up another notch. We accessorise with only a chunky seed bead bib, further enhancing the strong presence of blues in this outfit.

*Please don't sue us for any injuries inflicted from facepalming over our brilliant punnyness.

Pullover, L'Eclaireur, £78;
Bag, Givenchy, £1500;

Team Togs: West Ham United FC

A friend of mine or shall I say an unpaid advisor on our beloved Colney Chic has harassed and threatened me to writing about West Ham since a conversation we had about West Ham's underlying paedophilic sub-text. Before I'm jumped by some Frodo-looking punk from Green Street*, let me redeem myself by saying that I wasn't the one who appointed Pedobear as your bloody mascot, and named him Bubbles out every darned choices in the world. Don't even try and turn this around on me by calling out on how ignorant I am. I know I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles. By heart too, bitch what? You're forever blowing Bubbles. Never took West Ham fans for furries but hey.

Then came the new mascot, an anthropomorphic... hammer. Hammerhead, you call him. Shaking our heads forever in your direction, West Ham. Bet we know where you'd like that hammer -... well, let's scrub things a bit cleaner here and move on to the fashion before I scar you girls for life. The friend had mentioned on using West Ham's poor excuse for a mascot as inspiration and the only thing that came to mind was lolita-inspired fashion but feeling sorry for the team, I decided to go to an entirely different route but thought I'd start with that mental image for you ladies.

Known for its hooliganism that started in the 60s and escalated in the 70s to 80s, West Ham United are still infamous for playing a significant part in organised football violence. A history of violence and racism are also well known in Upton Park. While it's irresponsible to pay tribute to this disgusting display of 'loyalty' - I did want to concentrate on the history of West Ham being associated with the iron and shipbuilding industry. Added with the hooliganism culture ever present in the Hammers' reputation, an anarchy-inspired outfit came to being.

Our look is all about accessorising, the outfit itself consists of a simple nautical striped tee, coloured denim shorts and a structured biker waistcoat. We toughen up the look again with black studded biker boots and a statement necklace. Pile up some arm candy with different strand-based bracelets with charms associated with ships such as anchors and compass arrows. We finish the look with a claret-coloured throw around bag that can hold both your knuckle duster and Jack Daniels. Throw on a pair of 50-s inspired shades and you're good to go to fight those rotten Millwall tools.

*A/N: In all honesty, Green Street Hooligans was a great movie.

Team Togs: FC Bayern Munich

Another trip to the Bundesliga*, and it's only understandable that we tackle the biggest club to come out of Germany: Bayern Munich. Though they're that classic team you love to hate much like Manchester United and Barcelona, there's no doubt they're big for a reason. Their domestic success is reflected in their record for holding the most Bundesliga wins (21 titles) since the league's creation in 1963. Success and fame has easily lined them up to be one of Europe's football powerhouses. Their presence in the Champions League is expected and while their last winner's medal was over ten years ago, there's no doubt they still deliver in the European stage as they came out as runner ups in 2010 against Inter Milan.

Being a team hailing from Bavaria, it was only necessary that we infused the proud Bavarian culture into our look. (After all, the team's crest bears the Bavarian flag in it). I thought about the turn of spring into summer, and after slight contemplation I wanted to focus in the important tradition of the maibaum in Germanic countries. The Maypole is erected in Bavaria on either the 30th of April or the 1st of May to celebrate May Day. It has often been debated as one of the most significant remnants of Germanic paganism that survived Christianisation.

The image of Spring festivals is often filled with young girls in white dresses and floral crowns dancing around the maypole and we wanted to take that ethereal, airy, spiritual, almost fairy-like quality into our Munich look. It is also a modern take into an ancient festival that has been going on for centuries and we think football is exactly the same, it's face is changing but the traditions and passion is all the same. The traditional colours of Bavaria and Munich are used as accents though there is a tendency for their away colours of white.

We start with a modern spin on the traditional white dress, a thigh-high split dress in beige that we cover with a beautiful lace waistcoat to add texture. This dress is both comfortable, easy to wear, and at the same time edgy for a festival day. Pair with crystal-beaded sandals to give the illusion of wearing nothing but jewels on your feet. Accessories are symbolic, the traditional home-made floral crown in the Munich home colours of red (with infused burgundy) and a blue and white checkered ribbon to tie around your wrist to pay tribute to Bavaria. Finish with a handy wristlet in a pyramid shape for another modern representation.

*ETA: Kay's brain has forgotten we had covered Borussia Dortmund before.

Team Togs: AFC Ajax

Team Togs: AFC Ajax

On the evening of clinching their 31st title, we bring you an outfit inspired from the essence of Amsterdam and a loose history of Ajax. The streets of Amsterdam are certain to be packed with partying Ajax fans through all hours of the night, and we're sure there is plenty of beer involved - it is Holland, after all.

A more typical day in Amsterdam is likely spent walking alongside the canals, popping in and out of high street shops like H&M and the touristy shops that sell everything from the goofy, oversized hats that every hardcore Oranje fan seems to own to dick-shaped mints and lighters with coloured flames. Hungry? No problem - there are plenty of cozy cafés tucked away just waiting to be discovered, and it is almost obligatory to buy a paper cone filled with chips that have been drowned in mayonnaise. Boat and bus tours are also popular, if you need some time to relax while still taking in the view of an undeniably beautiful city.

We've forgone the general stereotypes in favour of a more accurate interpretation of daily summer life in the city. Instead of the ever-famous red light district, marijuana, and tulips being our inspiration, we've turned our attention to the breezy canals present throughout the city, the Amsterdam flag, and the first official kit of Ajax (which was later altered as it was nearly identical to Sparta's kit - the concept of an away kit had not yet been introduced).

Summer fun is definitely integral in assembling this outfit. A flirty, casual black dress perfect for a sunny day and patent red flats reference the all black kit with a red sash that Ajax originally played in, while the white bag completes the look as the third colour of the Amsterdam flag. Simple red and black and white bangles paired with cross earrings tie the outfit together with the flag theme.

Dress, Crumpet, £65;
Bag, Rebecca Minkhoff, £182;
Flats, D&G, £249;
Earrings, Kabiri, £74;
Bracelet (red), Kate Spade, £40;
Bracelet (black&white), Macy's, £24

Team Togs: FC Zenit Saint Petersburg

There is always something beautifully chaotic when I think of modern Russia. Its people, culture, and even style has continuously evolved - and the last 20 years has been spent playing catch up to their Western counterparts who had tackled modernisation in an entirely different manner. While Moscow remain to serve as Russia's stage for the collision of old guards and modern movements - another historically important city also comes to mind: Saint Petersburg. It served as the capital of Imperial Russia for 200 years save for a brief move to Moscow for five years and it has also witnessed three separate revolutions. Dubbed the most beautiful city in Russia, it is her unofficial second capital.

Like its home city, FC Zenit has a complex history closely associated with the political changes in Saint Petersburg. Football was introduced by the English in Imperial Russia in the late 19th century and many football teams were formed around industrial companies. FC Zenit emerged out of a number of these teams. The team both witnessed and survived the major events that shaped 20th century Russia: the First World War, the Bolshevik Revolution, and the Russian Civil War. With the creation of the Soviet Union, a Soviet football league was created in 1936. During 54 seasons in the Soviet Top League, Zenit has only become champions once in 1984.

With the collapse of the USSR in 1991, the team became independent and city-owned - and has added collection to their trophy cabinet including two Premier League trophies in 2007 and 2010 and a UEFA Cup in 2008. Taking inspiration from both Russia and the city's history - this look pays tribute to both the past, the present, and the future. With ice blue and white as Zenit's colours - there is a sort of an icy-winter feel in this eclectic look.

We start with metallic-effect skinny jeans and a grey graphic tee with a design I chose as two contrasting opinions on a single matter: religion. This is a subtle comment on the Russian Orthodox Church and its oppositions during the shaping of modern Russia. We chose a vintage fur shrug to give a slight Dr. Zhivago effect and accessorise with pieces that represent the characteristics of Russia. A handmade statement necklace that illustrates the opulence of Imperial Russia, a star-studded ring that reminds you of the Soviet era, working boots in denim and skull design to represent both the old Russian industry and new trends, and a white leather tote embossed with the domes of traditional Russian orthodox churches.

Tee, Gosse De Paris, £39
Jeans, Balmain, £1008
Capelet, Birgir Christiansen, £1870
Bag, Chanel (this bag is off of pre-fall '09 season - quite difficult to find)
Necklace, Krista R (off of Boticca), £245

Team Togs: Villarreal CF

Happy belated Easter, ladies! It's been a fairly busy week for myself and Lia who spent most the week with our respective families during Easter so it's great to be back blogging for all of you. Taking you back to the Iberian Peninsula, our La Liga choice for this week is another Valencian team on request, Villarreal CF. Nicknamed El Submarino Amarillo, an almost obscene amount of yellow is something that is always daunting to me, mainly because the colour never sits right with me.

Looking at Villarreal's colours, I notice that the yellow is somewhat neon - almost acidic - which reflected the historical trade of oranges of the home city. I was also left by the requester with a very helpful information of the city being famous for its production of ceramic tiles. The job now seems a little easier, and while I was reluctant to tackle this much yellow, I certainly wanted to bring myself to the challenge. Interestingly, just as I was reading up on Villarreal, my mother announced to me (after putting down the March Vogue) that yellow was one of the hottest colours this season.

Equipped with facts and coincidentals, I sat myself to create a fresh spring look that reflected the trends of this season including: bold prints, colour-blocking, and gypsy-inspired pieces. While yellow is the main star, I chose a blue geometric printed top that reminds us both of the team's away colours and the city's ceramic tiles industry. Pair it with a yellow ladylike skirt in a luxurious silk material and cover up with a wrap-style blazer in a neutral colour to offset the bold colours.

Accessorise with chunky platform boots in neon yellow, an all purposeful tote in a gorgeous brown to further neutralise the look and finish with crucifix earrings, a tribute to this season's gypsy luxe. To add more Valencia into it, this novelty citrus purse coin is the perfect solution.

Team Togs: Manchester United FC

Let's cross over the channel back to our beloved Premier League to pay homage to a not so beloved team... at least for an Arsenal fan. I didn't find Manchester United particularly difficult to do as its colours and mascot are a great inspiration for a classy S&M chic look. As one of the most successful, if not, the most successful team England has nurtured and yes, it hurts for me to say that - there is no better way than to create a look that features edgy in-your-face pieces that resonates on what the team is all about. In the words of Ben Stiller on Dodgeball: We're better than you, and we know it.

Dubbed the "Red Devils" - Manchester United are certainly aware of their years of hard-earned success though not without its haters. As they say, the more successful you are, the more enemies you'll have. What is most irritating about Man U must be how they've learnt to embrace their haters and while you sit and bitch about their undeserved success, they laugh at your lack of. Gary Neville certainly comes to mind.

The colours of Man U reeks devilish tendencies, but it is easily one of my favourite colour combinations. Both black and red are strong colours that need no accompaniment when used in a solid piece. Combined together, they come to embody mystery, luxury, and controversy laced with evil. The outfit comprises of outstanding pieces that are truly bold in its own, but combined packs a mean punch to your fashion palette.

We are absolutely lusting over this heavy lace skirt in classic Valentino red that so happens to be Manchester red as well. While I attempted to downplay the skirt with a simple jersey tank, I thought why bother when you can pair it with an edgy sheer shirt by quirky Danish designers. My favourite piece however is the embroidered silk cape that reminds you of fabrics you can only find in a Chinese opium den.

Accessories are simple yet statement-making: a classic-shaped clutch in blood red and gold hardware, laced up booties a dominatrix would have on top of her Christmas list, and your classic Hermès collier de chien in full gold and rose and brown diamonds with a price tag as obscene as Sir Alex's mouth.

Cape, Alexander McQueen, £465
Skirt, Valentino, £1335
Blouse, Designers Remix Signature, £333
Clutch, Miu Miu, £450
Shoes, Alexander McQueen, £417.50 (on sale)

Team Togs: Olympique de Marseille

After a quick jump to the French league, there was no stopping on the many teams that come to mind! One that have been continuously suggested by a good friend of mine is none other than Marseille FC - one of the most famous and successful teams France has to offer both domestically and continentally. I personally have a nostalgic relationship with the team as I admit to have been quite enticed by them circa Samir Nasri. Why, yes. I have moments of oestrogen-induced blindness. I'm not proud of it, but the city itself has always been a favourite of mine to watch.

The city of Marseille have long been associated with multiculturalism. It was and still remains to be one of the crown jewels of Mediterranean commerce. The city saw itself evolve from a gateway to France to a home to the future faces of France - one that reflects the long history of its empire. Zinedine Zidane, one of France's greatest export is a Marseillais, whose Kabyle Berber roots is a perfect example of the city's status as a melting pot. Nasri too, who is a Marseille native is of Berber ethnicity.

L'OM too is a wonderful reflection of the city's multiculturalisme. Like the French national team, its ethnic diversity is a consequence of colonialism. While France is certainly not the only nation responsible for colonialism, there is a clear difference on the French mindset on its colonised nations in comparison to say, the British and Spanish. Its almost idealistic and romantic attitude to colonialism led to, among other things, the face of France today.

The outfit is what I call a melting pot in itself. It features prominent Lebanese-French designers such as Rabih Kayrouz and Elie Saab to reflect that. We start with a beautiful neutral-coloured dress as the canvas and thrown over it is a jacket with a beautiful bold African print by eco-conscious label, Fair + True. Marseille's colours are a beautiful powder blue-turqouise and as not to let the colour overpower the whole look, we chose bold accessories to pay tribute such as the clutch and cuff. We finish the look with a statement necklace and neutral safari-inspired wedges.

Dress, Maison Rabih Kayrouz, £1488
Jacket, Fair + True, £75
Clutch, Azzaro, £706
Necklace, Elie Saab, £290
Bracelet, Amrita Singh, £63
Shoes, Chinese Laundry, £50

Team Togs: AJ Auxerre

Since I'm quite surprised (more shocked and appalled, really) that we have yet to touch Ligue 1 - a Team Togs emergency was needed to cover this void. I could probably proclaim myself a Francophile - I do love the language, the food, the culture, the men, and of course, the fashion yet I probably won't go so far as saying so. Another thing I love from France is but of course, the wine. Say what you want about the growth of Australian, Californian, and Chilean wine - nothing beats a good bottle from Burgundy.

Our Team Togs this time is AJ Auxerre, a team based none other than in the Bourgougne region. For Arsenal fans, this was the team Bacary Sagna grew up and flourished in. He talks about his hometown, Sens sentimentally in an interview, and one thing I've always noted was his constant mention of the vineyards in it. With that in mind, I attempt to infuse the feel of country chic in this winery inspired outfit.

Auxerre's colour is a beautiful powder blue though the team dons an all white kit with this very same blue trimmings. Without being too literal, powder blue and white are two very true colour themes in this look. We add a dose of none other than burgundy to pay tribute to the wine making culture of the region where AJ Auxerre is from.

Think spring afternoon walking through the Burgundian vineyards, picnics under a tree, your very own Bacary Sagna optional, though recommended. This is a perfect outfit for a relaxed atmosphere, girly yet not high maintenance. The printed tee plays down the pastel floral skirt, add a leather satchel in that beautiful powder blue once more, stacked bracelets, burgundy brogues, and a straw fedora.

Tee, J. Crew, £26
Skirt, Acne, £220
Shoes, Miu Miu, £335
Bag, Chloé, £340
Leather bracelet, Presh, £44
'Rope' bracelet, Aurélie Bidermann, £245.50

Team Togs: AFC Fiorentina

Hi ladies! It's been a while since any new posts has come around so we're truly sorry for that - life has been getting in the way, etc. and to be honest I really have no excuse... so let's just get started in a new Team Togs instalment that will concentrate on the beautiful colour of deep purple and what better team to represent that but Serie A's AFC Fiorentina? Their iconic purple kit is a great example of untraditional colours in the footballing world.

This look is heavily inspired by Fiorentina's Tuscan homeland, Florence. As one of the most important Renaissance capital in the late middle ages and onwards, the city has now become a tourist-magnet, especially those who are art history lovers. Florence boasts numerous Old Masters who represented the Florentine school such as Michelangelo, Lippi, Botticelli, and Donatello. Florence has a charm unlike any other Italian cities, its endearing rustic quality, gorgeous surrounding landscape, and mouth-watering cuisine makes it a destination that will leave you wanting more. I know I fell in love with it as soon as I entered.

The outfit focuses on two things: heavy luxurious prints and ivory coloured accents. The former is a tribute to the lavish fabrics donned by Florentine merchants of the High Middle Ages and the latter to the white marbles associated with classical antiquity which had become a preoccupation of the average Renaissance man. This outfit is imagined as a day out in Florence of museum-hopping, coffee breaks at the Piazza della Republica, with a bit of shopping in the end.

We start with a bold semi-paisley printed wide-legged trousers that looks more like a maxi skirt than anything. On top is a simple ivory tee to avoid business and a yellow scarf draped around to leave room for a statement necklace. We accessorise with suede stacked sandals, Wayfarers, a rose-gold cocktail ring, and an understated lady bag.

Trousers, Yves Saint Laurent, £1340
Tee, The Row, £345
Scarf, Alexander McQueen, £324
Necklace, Bjorg, £330
Sandals, Gucci, £630
Sunglasses, Ray-Ban, £120
Ring, Mita Marina Milano, £2115

*We used iconic Florence-based designers such as Gucci and Salvatore Ferragamo.

Team Togs: Athletic Club

Considering I, myself am not a fan of La Liga - it's quite surprising that I've managed to do three La Liga teams in such a short period of time! I have gotten another request to do Athletic Bilbao and while I was truly confused on where to start - I decided to give it a shot. With a handful of facts and little knowledge of La Liga - I began to tackle the challenge woefully.

Knowing that Athletic is a Basque team, I decided to play with their seafarer history and focus on clean nautical lines as the theme of the outfit. However, I wanted to avoid that Americana nautical look so I disregarded all kinds of anchors, stripes and navy - the quintessential styles associated with looks inspired by the sea. Instead, I chose classic silhouettes such as a sun dress and a 60s-style 3/4 sleeve coat.

While the colours of Athletic are red and white stripes, I have decided to take some creative freedom and avoid a literal translation. With a bold red sun dress, it is tamed with a white coat and a very structured minimal, no fuss bag. The sea life is all about beauty in functionality and the bag represents this attitude very well. Adding a Basque touch is the black beret where it is a part of the national costume. This beret has more attitude to the ones donned by the Basque men however, with a dramatic feather detail.

For jewellery, more tribute to the sea is done through a shark tooth pendant - where without being too obviously nautical, it is a direct homage to marine life. The ears are decorated with more minimalist fashion in a pair of gold square studs and the feet with quirky yet elegant lion paw pumps where it is a play on the team's nickname: Los Leones (the Lions).

Dress, Jaeger, £160
Coat, Giambattista Valli, £2,735
Bag, Anya Hindmarch, £1,031
Beret, vintage Henry G. Ross, £220
Pendant, Heather Gardner, £106
Earrings, Lord & Taylor, £220 (on sale)
Pumps, Christian Louboutin, £3,152

Team Togs: Real Madrid CF

Hate them or love them, Real Madrid has cemented its place in history as one of the greatest football teams the game has seen. With its rich history, countless achievements, an impressive alumni of prima donnas, and a large fan base that stretches across the globe - Real truly embodies the spirit of living large. For this edition of Team Togs, we attempt to illustrate a team that has carried luxury in its image for over a hundred years.

The combination of black and white will always be a classic that can never go wrong. Coco Chanel stood by this philosophy, and her predecessor Karl Lagerfeld understood it as well. The all white ensemble with hints of black has become synonymous with Real, and this look will try to both capture colour coordination and images that come to mind when one thinks of the team.

Without relying to the tired black bottom and white top, we have chosen a gorgeous white skirt with Hummingbird prints as the perfect accent to an otherwise business look of white on white. For drama and flair - something also associated with Real (mostly the players), we add a black cape with crystal embellishments. The accessories are simple and straight to the point - yet edgy enough to make a statement.

An off-colour diamond ring and earrings that lacks clarity is clearly the new solitaire and black and white striped platform pumps spells modernity. We finish the look with a classic black box clutch with skull and crown details which is a representation of Real Madrid's close connection with the Spanish royal family.

Skirt, Jil Sander, £732
Shirt, Weekday, £25
Cape, Chloé, £2,255
Ring, Mia & Beverly, £1,167
Earrings, Mia & Beverly, £1,717
Pumps, Charlotte Olympia, £600
Clutch, Alexander McQueen, £944

Team Togs: Everton FC

Blue

One of my favourite styles lately has to be defined as "simple with a twist." I love clothes that are versatile for almost any situation but also practical and comfortable. Here I've put together a look that can be worn for Everton, Chelsea, or even Birmingham City - and that's just in England! Any team that has royal blue as its colour could rock this look.

This sleeveless dress is the focus of this outfit. We've added a cardigan to keep out the draft and a pair of Ray-Bans should the sun become unbearable. (In England? Right...) The bangles and earrings are subtle, a reminder that the focus of the outfit is the dress, not the accessories.

The messenger bag and flats keep this cardigan and dress combination from becoming too much of a cute primary schoolteacher look. However, what's any outfit without a bit of bling? The dome ring is exactly that - a cluster of sparkling blue to enhance your overall look.

Dress, Chiara, £12.95;
Dome ring, Forever 21, £3.60;
Earrings, Forever 21, £0.90;
Cardigan, Donna Ida, £122.50;

Team Togs: AIK Stockholm

It's not often we would venture to the Swedish lands for inspiration - but in terms of fashion, the nation is home to that rustic minimalist aesthetic. With designs of clean crisp lines of an earthy feel - Stockholm's street style has become a source of inspiration for many fashion enthusiasts around the world.

AIK is one of Stockholm's representatives in the footballing world, and paying homage to both the team's semi-socialist portrait of itself ("The Public Sports Club") and Sweden's folk chic look, this outfit came to being. Donning black and yellow as the team's colours, the outfit uses a yellow sun dress as the basic premise and black accents to toughen up the dress.

To avoid that taxi cab look - a cropped leather jacket in dusty blue is used over the dress. Rustic yet clean accessories are used to achieve the whole look: grey combat military style boots with knee high socks, straw hat, black titanium ring, floral scarf, and authentic Lapland braided bracelets.

Dress, See by Chloé, £328
Jacket, Acne, £667
Boots, Swedish Hasbeens, £101
Socks, Vanessa Bruno, £76
Satchel, Proenza Schouler, £1,004
Scarf, Leigh & Luca, £125
Ring, Edward Mirell, £163

Team Togs: Valencia CF

What a great response we've had from our select group of friends on the blog! I had been requested to do a Team Tog on Valencia CF. I could not say no to the prospect of creating another outfit, so here we are once again. Venturing onto Spanish turf is not usually what I do for fun, but it was an experience to create a look inspired by the dark and quirky Valencian mascot of a bat stretching its wings around the arms.

Layering is key to this industrial-inspired autumn outfit as we start with a simple printed tee under a boho-esque knitted vest and a zig-zagged printed jacket whose small but busy prints give a bit of texture to the top half. The suede jeans adds more weight to the look however the orange shade lightens it up.

We accessorise with contrasting accessories that make a statement in its own - vampire teeth two finger ring, a heavy chain bracelet with a wooden cross charm, snake-skin brogue pumps, and your classic rocker chic Rocco Wang in a unique petrol colour to cool it off.

Tee, Zoe Karssen, £56
Jeans, Current/Elliott, £890
Vest, Calypso St. Barth, £168
Jacket, Elizabeth & James, £354
Ring, Verameat, £70
Bracelet, AliExpress.com, £4.50
Shoes, Kurt Geiger, £139
Bag, Alexander Wang, £600

Team Togs: Carling Cup Edition

With Carling Cup over - celebrations by Reds fan are all but finished. The Colney Chic decided to take this moment to spin a league showdown into a fashion head to head. Our take on the final consists of this: a light, airy - yet tough as nails outfit representing our Welsh side and an ethereal modern take of the 70s as the Scouse contender.

Cardiff: A strapless preppy blue gingham dress, layered with a bold swallow-print jacket is a take on the ever reigning print on print. Accessories are gold-themed, and the cuff stays in line with Cardiff's swallow mascot. We believe an outfit is incomplete without a bit of oddity - and so the decision to give the outfit white tights and ballet flats. Yes, someone may shoot us.

Dress, Abercrombie & Fitch, £49
Jacket, Monsoon, £59
Clutch, ASOS, £35
Flats, Chloé, £216
Tights, Nordstorm, £7.50
Cuff, Relic, £7.50

Liverpool: We know, we know a sheer maxi double skirt... it's that trend you'd love to be able to pull off but know you'll just look like a tool doing. In this case as an inspired outfit - anything goes. Forget black, we focus on the maxi skirt as the centre of the outfit - bright iconic Liverpool red. As chiffon makes you think of evening dresses, we take down the material with a simple statement tee. Pair it with an off-white blazer and earthy accessories such as a straw clutch and wooden platforms and you're good to go.

Skirt, Desire Clothing, £24
